Cooperating Out Of Poverty is a campaign that is primarily conducted in the regions. This page provides an overview of some of the poverty reduction programmes and activities that have been carried out as part of Cooperating Out of Poverty in Africa, the Americas and Asia-Pacific.

Cooperating out of poverty - The renaissance of the African cooperative movement, Patrick Develtere, Ignace Pollett & Fredrick Wanyama (eds), International Labour Office, Cooperative Branch, Job Creation and Enterprise Development Department.
This publication includes the Foreword, Introduction and Executive Summary of Cooperating out of poverty: the renaissance of the African cooperative movement. The full book will be published in late 2007.
The book is the result of a study programme undertaken in 2006 funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) for the benefit of the African countries.
There will be 14 chapters in the full book: Chapter 1 Cooperative development in Africa up to the 1990's; Chapter 2 Renaissance of African cooperatives in the 21st century - lessons from the field; Chapter 3 The qualitative and quantitative growth of the cooperative movement in Kenya; Chapter 4 Growth without structures - the cooperative movement in Ethiopia; Chapter 5 Uganda - starting all over again; Chapter 6 The cooperative sector in Ghana - small and big business; Chapter 7 Political and Genuine Cooperatives in Enugu State - Nigeria; Chapter 8 Bad Memories, Good Prospects - Cooperatives in Niger; Chapter 9 The Egyptian co-operative movement - between State and Market; Chapter 10 Surviving on the islands - cooperatives in Cape Verde;Chapter 11 Jump-starting the Rwandan cooperative movement; Chapter 12 Cooperatives in South Africa - a movement (re)emerging; Chapter 13 The Senegalese cooperative movement - embedded in the social Economy; Chapter 14 The invisible, but resilient African cooperatives - some concluding remarks.

Organizing out of poverty: stories from the grassroots: How the SYNDICOOP approach has worked in East Africa, Stirling Smith and Cilla Ross, International Labour Organisation, the International Co-operative Alliance and the International Confederation of Free trade Unions, 2006
A report on how the SYNDICOOP approach offers an alternative - showing that workers can be organized, in a way that offers some improvements in their daily lives and provides the voice that workers need. SYNDICOOP promotes trade unions and co-operatives - membership-based organizations for workers in the informal economy. The booklet describes the difference that this approach has made in East Africa - in Kenya, Rwanda., Tanzania and Uganda.

The SYNDICOOP approach tackles the challenge of
organizing workers in order to contribute to the goal of formalizing
their employment and ensuring their rights. This unique ILO programme
is a joint initiative designed and implemented in partnership with
the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) and
the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA). Within the ILO, the
Programme is led by the Co-operative Branch of the Employment Sector
and the Bureau for Workers’ activities.
