IHCO PublicationsAmericaBrazil Report of the Vice-Chairman America of IHCO We act today to build a better tomorrow Unimed System in its 40 years period of existence has given the experience and depth required to think about the future expressing its commitments to improving Brazilian life through actions that result in “union, confidence diversity and happier life” from them and their families. More than a mere slogan, this reflects a standpoint, a call to all to join together to build a better world from a day-a-day associated with Unimed Brand values. In our point of view more than principles of concepts are the guidelines of our cooperatives that are always aimed at the health and well being of every one, including prevention and early detection of any disease. We have embraced Unimed values and today we are working on multiplying information and spreading out our concept across the country in order to bring awareness to the society, as a whole about that is better to prevent and have a good life. This is what Unimed do Brasil has been doing over the last three-month period, showing the organization’s maturity and, more than that, it demonstrates just how effective and necessary it has been for a number of projects to gain shape and help strengthen the cooperatives. Types of actions Actions linked to the themes of education, health and environmental sustainability are the points for institutional operations aimed at developing activities and setting up partnerships that will connect the real needs of the cooperatives. It is based on these needs that Unimed do Brasil and Unimed Foundation organizes them. It is a two-way relationship in which it offers its actions and in return receives from them demands and proposal for new policies and seeks multiply ongoing actions, as we can list below: • Nutrition Program: food education Unimed Foundation organized the 20th Education Committee Meeting considered an important action to ensure the achievement of Foundation goals. The meeting aimed at changing ideas into action and pushing every cooperative to make an effort to involve physicians to play the main role into their cooperatives and be aware of cooperatives challenges Unimed keeps encouraging the sports because believes that promoting sport is the way to promote health. Unimed has been the official health care plan of the group during the Parapanamerican Games held in Rio de Janeiro. Once again, Unimed announced as the official health care plan of the athletics during the Paralympics, which will take place from September 6 to 17 in the Chinese city of Beijing. Thus, support for projects, education and dissemination of Unimed values focusing its activities on the theme of quality of life and social responsibility conforming Unimed guidelines and needs of the cooperatives. Unimed has been transforming itself into a benchmark and reference in the future. With the case “Conscience Consumption Program” Unimed has received the Benchmarking Brazilian environmental Awards. Because our objective is to PROMOTE HEALTH and WELL-BEING. Renovation Movement: launched a CD with an extensive, strategy of information that has been developed aiming to extend even more the reach and scope of this information for medical group in order to be aware of how to deal with the waste products even in offices procedures and hospitals or clinics. Environmental Sustainability action, it is another program developed, pursuing the 7th Goal as a part of the Millennium Development Goals. To guarantee quality of life for the future generations, Unimed has increased a number – 51 millions trees – of private forest reserves. Finally Unimed has been participated of the GRI G3 2007 – 2008, a group of work that searches to contribute with Global Reporting Institute giving transparency information of the accounts of Brazilian organization to the Sustainability Report – GRI. International In response to a special consultation of Mr. Ivano Barberini, ICA President and Dr. José Carlos Guisado, IHCO president, on certain key issues regarding the whole International Co-operative Alliance and its sectors organization as well as a proposal for a new subscription formula, Unimed do Brasil has analyzed the documents attached. After forwarded to Unimed do Brasil Legal Advisor and discussed some topics, we sent our views and comments on February 20th, 2008. Unimed numbers updated are: Argentine Report of actions . FAESS UNISOL SALUD ARGENTINA Respect to the work of primary health care, Faess has developed 2 new medical centers, one in Candelaria, state of Misiones and another one in Gualeguaychu, state of Entre Rios. Today existing 6 centers of primary health care UNISOL It is hoped to arrive with 10 centers of primary attention in the 2008. These centers have more of 18.000 associates. On the other hand Faess offers a service of cover of medical high complexity and partial services to 10.000 people. Preventive campaign of the cooperative sector, in the locality of Two of May, Province of Misiones, had finish. Faess include 12000 citizens on a total of 15000 inhabitants, throughout a year, with improvements of the nutrition and cardiovascular risk factors indicators. This campaign has originated a model for similar actions, on the part of the government, altogether with UNESCO, denominated Award Mothers and Grandmothers of May Place, with un amount of 20000 U$S for the champion .The last census of the National Organism of Co-ops (Inaes) has revealed the existence of 200 cooperatives of publics services, that serve diverse type of health to 500.000 thousand people. Also it has revealed the existence of 33 cooperatives of health professional. If addition with the mutual’s health organizations, the census reveals 2.500.000 people taken health care by this sector. It’s reveals a fourth clear effectors in health, along with the union social works, the state and the sector of the private medicine, Most of these cooperatives are inside Faess, but between Faess and those Co ops that do not are, we decided to conform the NETWORK of Cooperatives of Health of the Republica Argentina, with the Coordination of Faess. Faess today have 44 primary cooperatives, 11 cooperative Federations, 6 mutual’s and four medical associations . With this objet Faess perform the first meeting, 4 and 5 of May of the 2007, in while the President of the commission of health of the Congress, deputy Silvestre Begnis, presents a project of law of regulation of the cooperatives and mutual’s of health, to avoid the co ops were include in the same regulation that the profit organizations. Recently the mutual’s and cooperatives have arrived to a consensus on this law, In july 5 and 6 of the current year will be the Second Meeting of Health Co ops in Rosario, state of Santa Fe In general we observed an increase of the cooperatives that incorporate health and growing of cooperatives of professionals, who participate in Faess. The government has invited to the cooperative sector of health for the participation in the Plan “AHI” (HEAR), a plan destined to serve health services in 230 cities with bad indicators of poorest for 4 years. Faess want to be un agent of the insurance (Social Work with possibility of obteing contributions of direct way, like other organizations). Also are planning the development of new plans of benefit of services of health, always with the model co managed of users and professionals. In November of the 2007, Faess participate, in name of IHCO, in the meeting of NETWORK ACYM, in Montevideo. Later I had been reporting information to the secretary of reunion in permanent form. Faess has participated also in reunion of the XV Conference of the ACI America, in Santo Domingo, in the 2007, where his secretary, Dr Eduardo Escudero coordinates a Health Symposium for the region.
