About the ICBA

The International Co-operative Banking Association (ICBA) is a sectoral organisation of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA). The ICBA was set up in 1922 by national co-operative banks and financial organisations. The ICBA mission is to contribute to the sound development, growth and competitiveness of co-operative banks in the marketplace by defending their interests and by promoting worldwide their important contribution to the economic and social well-being of the population and their communities.

The ICBA Central Executive maintains close contact with the World Council of Credit Unions (USA) , the European Association of Co-operative Banks (Brussels) and the International Raffeisen Union (Bonn). The ICBA is a true global and democratically elected Specialised Organisation of the ICA, representing the views of co-operative financial institutions all over the world.

Structure

The ICBA's Board is the Executive Committee, whose members enjoy a four year term of office. The President is elected from those members.

Also, there are Regional Committees (each with a Regional Chairperson). The Regional Chairpersons are all Vice-presidents and members of the Central Executive Committee and are indicated on the Central Executive members list. The remaining members of the Central Executive represent their organisation directly and can decide whether also to become a member of their Regional Committee. Top of page

Statutory Meetings

The Central Executive Committee meets in Spring and Autumn, although it can convene meetings at other times as necessary. Its Plenary Session is also held in the Autumn in conjunction with the meeting of the Central Executive Committee.

Ideally, each of the Regional Committees should meet at least three times a year.

Join ICBA

Membership for the ICBA is invited from national and international co-operative banks with a good reputation, a democratic constitution, affiliated to the ICA, and those institution which are interested in co-operative banking affairs, provided that their objects are in conformity with the objectives of the ICA.
