Co-opoly – The Game of Cooperatives

October 24, 2012 by:

I got a chance to talk with Andrew Stachiw from The Toolbox for Education and Social Action, at the NCBA Cooperatives conference in Seattle Washington in early October. They have created a came called Co-opoly. Co-opoly is a unique game that gives players a chance to role-play as cooperators, and engage with everyday democracy. The board game is a 100% USA made, and most of the pieces are made within 70 miles of their home base, with 2/3 of the components needed for the game made by other cooperatives. There are 8 different vendors needed to put the whole game together. Cost for the game is on a sliding scale of $38-70 with a suggested price of $50. This game seems like a great tool for organizational development and education. They are nearly through their first fun of games, as the game has been incredibly successful so far.

The only thing I regret is that we didn’t actually get to play the game at the conference. It seems like it would be a  fun and educational session! Maybe next year.
