The ICA General Assembly 2009 brought together nearly 800 delegates on 19-20 November 2009 at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Election Results

President

Dame Pauline Green of the United Kingdom was unanimously elected by the General Assembly. She becomes ICA's first woman president. Upon election, Dame Pauline stepped down as the Co-president of Co-operatives Europe and as ICA's Vice-president for Europe.

Vice-Presidents

The three Vice-Presidential candidates were unamiously elected by the General Assembly.
  • Stanley Muchiri of the Co-operative Bank of Kenya was elected as ICA Vice-president for Africa.
  • Ramon Imperial Zuniga of the Caja Popular of Mexico was elected as ICA Vice-president for the Americas.
  • Li Chungsheng of the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Co-operatives was elected as ICA Vice-president for Asia-Pacific.

Board Members

The General Assembly was requested to vote for 15 members of the board nominated by ICA member organisations, 2 members of the board nominated by the Sectoral Organisations and one member nominated by youth co-operators. Of the 618 votes distributed, 608 votes were cast and 4 considered invalid.

Rochdale Pioneer Award 2009

Juan Somavia, Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) presented the Rochdale Pioneer Award posthumously to Ivano Baberini, formeer ICA President. Mr. Barberini's wife and daughter attended the ceremony held at the farewell reception in Geneva on 20 November 2009.
